Given our recent adventures with autonomous vehicles at AWS re:Invent Rick and I decided to take a little road-trip up to Reno to check on a truck that I have stored there housing all my Burning Man gear (we didn’t attend Burning Man this year so wanted to verify it wasn’t full of water, etc)
And since we’re all about self-driving cars now we set about renting a Telsa Model 3 for the weekend.
My first time driving a Tesla and gotta say that even though we were only in Reno for less than 12 hours (thanks to an incoming snowstorm we bugged out early) it was a really fun trip.
We even tried to visit the Tesla gigafactory near Reno however security wouldn’t let us anywhere near it.
Out of the total of somewhere around 900 miles we estimate we manually drove for less than 50 miles. Autopilot just works amazingly well, and it feels almost like playing a computer game while you wait to see what the car will do every time you approach a corner or intersection. 7 hours of straight driving and I didn’t feel tired at all.
I will really struggle to ever buy another car that doesn’t drive itself. Sadly I just have no use for a car living in central London, but if I did I would totally buy a Tesla.
